“Under the Broom Tree” – 1 Kings 19

At any given time, 60% of Americans classify themselves as depressed!  98% of Americans claim to have struggled with depression at least once in their life!   Those are amazing statistics.  Why?  Because we hardly ever talk about depression in the church, even though so many struggle with it.  Join us as we take a look at a time in Elijah’s life when he was mired in depression, and see God’s prescription for him to find victory.  Sermon originally preached on October 16, 2011.

“The Great Promise Keeper” – Romans 4:19-21

Have you ever met a pathological liar?  After you discover that truth, do you trust what they tell you or do you doubt?  I would guess that you doubt what they have to say.  Someone’s past track record matters!  What is God’s track record.  God has a track record of fulfilled prophecies and promises.  So . . . we can trust him when he says he will be with us.  Join us as we talk about how doubt can be a roadblock to our faith and how we can get around it with God’s help.   Sermon originally preached on October 2, 2011.

“Faith Over Fear” – Matthew 14:22-36

Are you afraid of the dark?  I would venture to guess that you left that particular fear behind years ago.  BUT . . . does that mean that you are not afraid of anything?  Fear is always with us.  We fear failure, rejection, humiliation, aging, death, sickness, broken relationships, and much more.  Is this fear sin?  How can we conquer it?  How should we look at fear in our lives?  How does God want us to look at fear?  Join us as we try to find answers to these difficult questions.   Sermon originally preached on September 18, 2011.

“Don’t Worry; Be Happy!” – Matthew 6:24-35

“He’s got the whole world in his hands.  He’s got the whole world in his hands.  He’s got the whole world in his hands.  He’s got the whole world in his hands.”  We sing that song from the time we are kids, and we believe its words with all of our hearts.  But . . . often it doesn’t translate practically into our lives, because we worry.  Worry demonstrates that we are taking our problems into our own hands, rather than giving them to the God who created us.  Join us as we talk about how worry can be a roadblock to our daily faith, and try to see if we can find ways keep our focus on God and not on our problems.   Sermon originally preached on September 4, 2011.
